From the Bunker — Weird Frequencies
Five years of Sunday nights, and we finally did the thing we kept talking about: we took Weird Frequencies out of the studio and put it on a table inside a working haunted house.
Saturday night, October 24, we broadcast live for two hours from Boo Crew Haunted House in Mechanicsburg — our first-ever live event, The Haunted Heartland. The panel was free. The haunt itself was a separate ticket, and by the time we went on the air, the word from the Boo Crew folks was that the night had sold out.
Rob opened the show the only way that made sense: “Tonight we have three people who don’t just talk about the paranormal. They go out and they stand in it.”
The panel earned that introduction. Ash Hamilton — filmmaker and paranormal investigator — didn’t just sit on the panel, he basically directed the broadcast, bringing his own camera gear and running the video so folks at home could watch. Jonathan Rees, co-host of the Central Illinois podcast Ope, A Ghost, has investigated famous haunted locations all over the Midwest. And Dan Swinson, Boo Crew’s own second-in-command, was our man on the ground — the link between the show and the haunt.
Here’s what nobody warns you about when you broadcast from a haunted house on a Saturday night in October: the haunt does not pause for your show. Screams rolled in from the trail behind us all night. Actors drifted past the table. One of Boo Crew’s characters — Silas — developed a running habit of materializing in Tyler’s chair every time Tyler got up. It happened during the show. Then it happened again.
And we wouldn’t change a second of it.
For two hours we did what we do every Sunday — stories, evidence, questions from the chat and from the folks standing right there in front of us — except this time the room answered back. People drove out, stood in the cold, and stayed for a paranormal panel. Five years in, that means something to us.
The Haunted Heartland was our first live show. Sitting at that table, listening to a sold-out haunt scream behind us while three investigators traded the wildest stories of their lives, we can tell you one thing for certain: it is not going to feel like the last.
Weird Frequencies is live every Sunday, 8–10 PM CT. The full Haunted Heartland broadcast — cleaned audio edition — is up now on YouTube and Spotify.
